Artist Statement
I am a street photographer, I photograph people and that is what you will find here more than anything else, photos of people doing things. The camera you use isn't all that important, it is how you see that is. Do you have a problem photographing people on the street? I did at first, but I took a short course at a university where a newspaper photographer taught the course. He looked at my photos and asked why I always shot the backs of people? He taught me a few things that got me past being afraid of photographing a person I didn't know. The thing that worked well for me at first was to ask if I could take a photo of what a person was doing--a painter in the park, a person fixing the tire on his bike and it worked. Later I no longer felt the need to ask, but just took the photo.
I worked for ten years as a stringer for a weekly newspaper, and every photo either had to tell a story or support a story. Today I photograph what I want to, and you can find me walking the uptown of Charlotte, camera in hand making photos of the city I love and the people that make it great.
