About photosbypike

I ran into a couple of photographers from out of town the other day, and they asked me what is there to photograph in Charlotte.  I told them to just walk around there is always something of interest.  They headed for Trade and Tryon and I went the other way to the Arena.  There was a video photographer there and he had stopped a couple to take their picture. I took one of the three of them and moved closer.  The video photographer asked the couple to kiss.  He then said he missed it and could they kiss again.  They did, and he said he missed it again.  Then the guy said to the video photographer, “you tell us when you’re ready, because I just met this woman.”  I hope that the two photographers I had just met had as much luck as I just did.

I just confirmed what kind of photographer I am.  I am scanning 45 years’ worth of negatives and slides, and yes, I am a people photographer.  That is what I love to shoot, and judging from what visitors to this site look at, that is what you are interested in.  I also realize that I am a historian when I look at the shots taken 30 years ago of uptown Charlotte and see what was there and then I see what is there today. If I am lucky, some of these images will hang around for a long time, and people will look at the many images of people in uptown Charlotte.  You know the kind, where we look at what people were doing 100 years ago, and how they dressed and how women wore their hair.  As a photographer, I am living during a very interesting time, and in a very interesting place.

I hope the people who are on this site don’t mind, but if you do, let me know and I will remove the image.  Those who don’t mind, thanks and let’s hope you make it into the history of Charlotte. After all, it is the people who make this such a wonderful place to live.

And thank everyone who has taken the time to look.
